Leaders in the paint industry, Dulux Trade, reported a notable change in the buying behaviour of the average tradesperson. Their sales of interior water-borne paint have risen by a significant 13% in 2018 compared with the previous year, against a 3% year-on-year decline in the sales of traditional solvent-borne paint.
This shift in market could be a sign of the times, as an increasing number of specifiers are making a switch to specifying water-borne paints to comply with Green Building Standards, such as BREEAM, LEED and The Well Building Standard.
In addition to the eco-friendly credentials that water-borne paints have to offer, there are also a number of advantages to using water-borne paint for certain tasks. As well as being touch dry much quicker than their solvent-borne alternatives, water-borne paints are also lower odour and have little-to-no yellowing.
And Dulux Trade lead, Karen Wilkinson, expects this trend to continue:
“We expect sales of water-borne paints to rise again over the next 12 months, as product innovation continues with new advances in formulation technology, and more and more specifiers and decorators become aware of the benefits, gaining the confidence to switch to water-borne for good.”
Stax are proud to stock a range of water-borne paints in a variety of colours to suit every application and style.
