The power of social for tradespeople

The rise of social media has provided businesses of all kinds with an additional platform to promot

Published 12th January 2021

The rise of social media has provided businesses of all kinds with an additional platform to promote their services and attract potential new customers. However, research has found that 85% of tradesmen in the UK still don’t know how to use it effectively.

A recent study looked into how tradesmen currently use social media platforms and whether they are taking advantage of its potential.

Of the trades surveyed, 47% agreed that being active on social media (primarily Facebook) helped them to win more business. This, along with the fact that one in ten tradesmen now use social media as their sole form of marketing, shows how beneficial it can be to get ahead of competitors and build relationships with the local community.

Despite its importance, a staggering majority of tradespeople were quick to point out that they weren’t using social platforms as effectively as they’d like.

Plumbers were the least likely to maximise its potential (90%), whilst joiners were found to be the most social savvy of all.

If you’re not already using it to promote your business then why not get started now? The British public are using platforms such as Facebook and Instagram more and more to find recommendations. Since social media marketing for tradesmen can be done pretty cheaply, it’s a no brainer.

Top 5 trades most likely to attract new business with a strong social presence:

BUILDERS – 66%
BRICKLAYERS – 53%
LANDSCAPERS – 51%
PAINTERS & DECORATORS – 46%
ELECTRICIANS – 45%
