The search volumes in UK retail continued its upward trend by 9% across all devices during the third quarter.
The study, which is carried out by Google and the British Retail Consortium (BRC) demonstrated that online search continues to increase in popularity. Another stark warning for retailers who have failed to adopt online technologies and incorporate them into their future plans.
Smartphones were proven to have been responsible for the largest portion of retail searches, which highlights the importance for retailers to have a website that is mobile optimised. Previously it had been believed that most would not shop online using a mobile device, however, the latest research suggests quite the opposite as new technologies and better design makes it more accessible for consumers.
It’s not just search volume from within the UK that’s increasing either. Search volumes from overseas into UK retail have increased, with Austria being the strongest showing a 28% increase.
