We’ve heard them all before! Stereotypes about tradespeople are rife and as many of us in the industry know are largely untrue. Popular ones include, eats a fry-up every day, wolf whistles at passing women and are unreliable, all of which we would guess stem from a very small minority!
However, the latest findings come as a result of a poll that demonstrates most tradespeople are gym attending, 5 a day eating, health-conscious individuals who are fed up of the tiresome stereotypes and eager to shake them off. The research, which polled over 500 independent tradesmen showed that a huge 80% of respondents would class themselves as sensitive.
45% of tradespeople in the poll complained about being pigeon-holed whilst 4 out of 10 stated the biggest misconception about tradespeople was that they were sexist or misogynist. The results also showed that many are responsible for the school run, enjoy a political debate and spend just 4 hours a week in the pub on average.
A whopping 90% of those polled claimed to be happy in their job and stated they would not have followed a different career path if they had the choice. There were some other interesting facts, such as these average weekly figures:
The average tradesman also drives 85 miles a week, sings along to approximately 15 songs, spends 8 hours on social media and sends 19 texts to their other half!
