Each year, homes and high streets everywhere illuminate to set the scene for Christmas. But after another year of high energy prices, what does this mean for the tradition of festive light displays?

Research suggests the average family has their Christmas lights on for around six hours a day. Most homes hang more than one string of lights, so two 100-count strings of fairy lights running at 40 watts for six hours would total 80 watts, meaning a 0.48kW output.

Based on the October 2023 energy price cap, which is 27.35p kWh, turning on these lights would cost you around 13p a day, or £3.99 a month. Not too bad, right? Well, with this in mind, you can reduce this cost by switching from traditional lights to LED lights

In fact, Premier’s 1000 LED Tree Brights cost as little as 50p to run for the whole festive season (based on 8 hours daily for 30 days, on current energy costs).

Why should customers choose LED Christmas lights?

LED lights are more energy-efficient than traditional bulbs in terms of use and production, using around 75% less energy than conventional light bulbs to produce similar brightness levels.

Although LED Christmas lights can cost more to purchase than traditional incandescent lights, they last longer and require less energy to run, giving customers their initial investment back quickly from the savings on their energy bill. By using less energy to run, LED lights also have a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional alternatives, making them the eco-friendlier option.

As well as cost saving benefits, LED lighting is also safer for households to use. Traditional bulbs are made from glass, making them prone to breakage and getting hot when in use, which can create a hazard in family homes.

Stock up in time for Christmas

As well as cost-efficiency and eco-friendliness, LEDs come in a huge range of colours and styles. From pre-lit LED Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands to indoor and outdoor characters and stars, there’s a huge range of LED lighting available for you to help your customers find the right fit for their Christmas displays
