Published 31st May 2017

A large part of being successful in the retail industry is capitalising on timely events effectively. There are micro-holiday’s and events throughout the year that present significant opportunities for retailers to generate more profits. Father’s Day is on the 18th June this year, and it’s the perfect opportunity to mix things up a bit and generate some extra sales.

Here are our top tips for Father’s Day success:

#1 – Prepare early and stock appropriate gifts

Making the most out of Father’s Day might mean that you need to order in some items that you don’t usually stock. Popular choices include tools, gadgets and electricals. If possible it would also be worth looking at some novelty Father’s Day items too in order to really boost sales.

#2 – Cater to different audiences

The audience for Father’s Day is incredibly large and varied, one customer might be a 5-year-old boy spending his pocket money and another could be in his 30’s with a considerable amount more spending power. You need to make sure you choose a range of items with varying prices to cater to the age and affluence differences you’re likely to come across. For the best results, you’ll want a stockpile of Father’s Day gifts that start from £5 and range up to around £50.

#3 – Advertise in advance

It’s no good having a great Father’s Day offering if nobody knows about it. Promote your Father’s Day stock in advance in-store, and through any online and social media channels you might have. You may also want to devise a special deal for the occasion or offer a gift-wrapping service to attract even more attention.

#4 – Display stock close to the counter

Make sure you strategically display your Father’s Day stock close to your counter, or in another high traffic area of the store. The more convenient it is for your customers to pick up, the more likely they are to make a purchase or at least register to come back when they’re shopping for a Father’s Day present.
