According to official numbers, non-fatal work-related injuries across Europe cost up towards 500 billion Euros every year. Self-reports from 2017 and 2018 indicate that there were 555,000 estimated non-fatal injuries reported by workers in the UK alone during those years. These injuries often come with high costs, not only in terms of money, but also in pain and other types of suffering. The Swedish PPE company Ejendals is now on a mission to show that a majority of these accidents could be avoided with the right personnel protection equipment.
Ejendals specializes in safety gloves and shoes – solutions that are key to reducing the most common types of injuries in the workplace. 31% of all reported non-fatal work-related injuries in the UK are reported as slips, trips or falls and across Europe, the most common accident reported are wounds and superficial injuries, where hand cut wounds are the most common.
“Hands and feet are the body parts that get injured the most. These kinds of injuries could be avoided not only with the right PPE, but also with the right mindset around PPE in general. We know that many people, unfortunately, don’t prioritize this type of protection solution as much as they for example prioritize helmets, which is evident from looking at the statistics”, says Martin Stevens, Country Manager for Ejendals in the UK and Ireland.
Under the brand of Tegera, Ejendals is the market leader in the Nordics when it comes to safety gloves. The key is to find the right solution, not only for the task at hand, but also for the individual worker - a glove that doesn’t fit won’t stay on.
“The right gloves should help you get the job done and not feel like an obstacle to work around. If it’s too inconvenient, it’s way too easy to just take them off and expose yourself to unnecessary risk”, continues Martin Stevens.
Ejendals’ solution is a wide range of gloves that can protect you in close to every situation imaginable. No matter if it’s about cold, hot, vibration or cut environments, there’s always a solution that provides the protection you need the most. There are also specific solutions for precision work, something many industries are demanding today.
“We have solutions for pretty much any industry and every need. No matter if it’s heavy duty construction work, oil industry, health care or fine technology. We’ve got the glove and shoe to get the job done with the best possible protection and precision”, continues Martin Stevens.
Ejendals’ shoes are sold under the brand of Jalas and the full product line shows broad and versatile solutions, just as it does for Tegera gloves. With full focus on the best available protection and comfort, there’s a specific solution for every type of workplace and industry.
“Gloves and safety footwear not working as intended are taken off or left in the locker room which leads to mistakes and mishaps and an increased risk for accidents such as slipping or sprains. These issues can easily keep you out of commission for weeks on end especially if you break something”, Martin Stevens concludes.
Ejendals is now on tour around Europe to speak about its workplace safety and products via the education program Ejendals Academy, that entirely focuses on injury risks and ways of protecting yourself. The goal with the tour is to contribute to a reduction in the number of injuries through educating, informing and reminding. A key ingredient in this is also to get more workplaces to review how they choose safety equipment for hands and feet.
There’s a vast supply of products and solutions on the market, but from experience, Ejendals know that the choice often isn’t about a wide selection to choose from, but rather to reduce the number of choices to simplify the process.
