There have been concerns raised about the lack of apprenticeships in the construction industry in Scotland.
A report by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has highlighted that there is a shortage of skilled blue and white collar workers.
However, it isn’t all glum, 30% of respondents said that they have had more work as a result. Two thirds also predicted good growth over the next two years. Furthermore, an additional 30,000 apprenticeships a year are planned by 2020. This comes after 100,000 apprenticeships were delivered over the past 4 years.
Scottish Labour's skills and lifelong learning spokesman Iain Gray said: "We also know that Scotland needs almost 150,000 engineers by 2022 and if we want our economy to continue to grow we need to fill that gap. While the SNP government boast about their apprenticeship programme, it is clear that there are just not enough apprenticeships in key sectors like construction.”
It is said that Scottish SNP government are very keen to make this happen and are actively working with the Federation of Master Builders to increase employment opportunities in the construction industry.
