With average utility bills set to rise by a whopping £693 from April, the Rainy Day Trust charity has recently launched its ‘Let’s Save Energy’ campaign to support those in need of help. The campaign is taking a proactive approach by providing advice on ways to reduce energy usage, with the ultimate aim of preventing people from getting bogged down with bills they can’t pay.
As well as the advice available, some candidates will be eligible for other support. This could include a box of new LED light bulbs which are over 80% more efficient than halogen bulbs, a radiator reflector which reflects heat back into a room plus new ECO shower heads to save on water and more.
In order to qualify for support, candidates must currently, or have previously worked in the home improvement industry for at least 12 months. Example roles could include, but are not limited to, industry suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers and more.
Rainy Day Trust CEO Bryan Clover explained the thinking behind the charity’s latest initiative:
“For the past few months, the news has been full of articles about spiralling gas prices and the impact that they will have on the domestic gas market,” he said. “The price increases to consumers won’t be limited to gas, as a great deal of our electricity is generated by gas-fired power stations.
“While our regular financial support to people that are struggling will remain in place – and we can award grants to help with utility bills – that is really only a sticking plaster on an open wound, as the same problem will re-appear again and again, while this situation persists.
“What people need is a longer-term solution that helps them to reduce energy usage and; therefore, keep energy bills lower permanently. The additional benefit of course, is that by using less energy, you also reduce your carbon footprint, which helps us to hit our own ESG commitment. So, we have developed an assistance package designed to do just that,” he added.
