A new national campaign and petition aim to highlight the issue of unpaid and overdue invoices in the UK construction sector. The #PayWhatYouOwe campaign is gathering momentum in its goal of supporting British tradespeople who are not being paid for the work they have done.

As you will probably well know, unpaid and disputed invoices have long since been a blight on the UK construction industries. Hardworking tradespeople are regularly having to chase payments for work they have already completed. It also aims to educate people on the impact unpaid invoices have, not just on the individuals concerned who need to pay bills etc, but also on the UK economy.

The UK construction industry is worth approximately £164 billion a year, however, at present tradespeople don’t have the necessary support to enforce unpaid invoices. Part of the campaign is a petition to provide new rights to tradespeople who have been unfairly stiffed for their bill. This could include enforceable fines for unpaid or overdue invoices.

If you want to support the campaign, head over to change.org and sign the petition. You can also follow the campaign using the hashtag on Twitter and other social media channels.
