Now spring has arrived and summer months approach, gardeners across the UK are beginning to tackle their outdoor to do-lists – and one job that’s often left until last is paving and patio cleaning.
Although many push this chore to the back of the to-do list, patio and paving cleaning is essential to keep the garden in good condition and ensuring slabs last.
The longer dirt and grime are left on paving, the harder it is to remove it – and like most gardening jobs, regular maintenance is key. Cleaning paving three or four times a year is normally enough.
Without regular cleaning, moisture and bacteria can cause moss and algae to build up, which not only make the garden look tired and unkempt, can also make surfaces slippery and hazardous.
Easy patio and paving cleaning tips
If the patio or paved area is in fairly good condition and regularly maintained, a bucket of warm soapy water or a patio cleaner that prevents and kills mould, and a stiff broom are probably enough.
If there is a little more work to be done, then a sharp tool or scrubbing brush will help to remove any weeds, moss and debris and a broom will sweep them away nicely.
