Wholesalers come into their own as the cost of distribution continues to rise

Stax Trade Centres have been supporting independent garden centres for over 40 years, and never has

Stax Trade Centres have been supporting independent garden centres for over 40 years, and never has the wholesale business been more relevant to the independent sector and manufacturers.

With labour and fuel costs at an all-time high, many manufacturers are reviewing their current distribution models and routes to market, particularly when it comes to serving the independent retail sector.

Following the supported distribution agreements between Stax and Henkel late last year, Stax are pleased to announce a further two new agreements with Ronseal and Fire Angel for 2023.

Simon Wright, Stax Purchasing Director, said: “The wholesale business model is a WIN-WIN-WIN scenario. The manufacturer wins by reducing their administration, processing and distribution costs.

“The independent garden centre wins by receiving the same price they were previously paying for direct distribution but with the added support of a Stax rep and the opportunity to order in smaller just-in-time quantities. They can meet their minimum order value with a range a product from over 40,000 stocked lines, and of course, the sales also count towards the generous Stax retail rebate, which is payable annually.

“And Stax wins by providing a more rounded service to existing customers and growing their customer base.”

As more and more manufacturers review their direct-to-retail delivery model, Stax and wholesalers in general are well placed to step in and provide continuity of service to the independent garden centre sector.

To achieve this, Stax are redefining their wholesale model, working closely with suppliers and manufacturers to support their brands, striving to build partnerships and efficiencies, instead of solely volume.

Their wholesale model encourages relationships built on quality, service and support, not simply price alone. One that allows garden centres to manage their stock holding and cash flow, whilst enabling sustainable growth both for Stax and its independent retail customers.
