Regarded as the next big revolution in retail since the shift to digital, sustainability is redefining the wholesale industry, putting a focus on the planet as well as profits.
As a wholesaler, we’re focusing on the changes and innovations we can make which are kinder to the world. This includes stocking products made from recycled and re-used materials, making eco-friendly choices more available to retailers, and supporting manufacturers to make better decisions with their packaging.
Many suppliers have already started their journeys to minimising environmental impact, creating renewable products that are tailored to a greener future. To celebrate these eco innovations, we’re using the month of October to shine the spotlight on those brands who are already supercharging their sustainability projects.
It isn’t just about product innovations, sustainability is the whole package…
Earlier this year, regulations to packaging in the UK were updated to reduce the amount of plastic packaging being produced. This affects many manufacturers and importers, who will now be taxed on packaging that doesn’t contain at least 30% recycled plastic – whether filled or unfilled, imported plastic packaging will be liable to tax.
The aim of this new policy is to increase the levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste, diverting plastic away from landfill and incineration whilst promoting businesses to use recycled plastic more. Following these new packaging regulations, we’re working with manufacturers to help them achieve new standards of packaging – not just to meet new regulations, but to change mindsets for the better and for the future.
After all, the climate crisis affects us all – not just businesses.
