Primeur have been trading for over 50 years, but it wasn’t until 2017 that their eco-journey truly began.
Fast forward to 2022 and they are now a multi-award-winning sustainability brand, providing stylish and sustainable solutions within the garden industry. To find out more, we spoke to Sarah McLafferty, National Account Manager at Primeur about their journey to becoming an award-winning eco brand.
Sarah said: “We started focusing on sustainability around six years ago, when our factory partners began to develop garden products using recycled materials.”
Since then, Primeur have developed an expansive garden range, including planters, decking, steppingstones and edging – all made from recycled tyres. Each year, Primeur supply products that have helped to recycle around 5 million tyres. Recycled tyres make versatile, robust, weather-proof products.
Sarah added: “Our planters stand being freezing cold and super-hot; they won’t crack or rot and they’re lightweight too. “It’s ideal for retailers because they don’t have to worry about breakage when moving around the store. And great for mail order too as they are lightweight and not easily damaged when being posted.”
It didn’t take long for the industry to recognise Primeur for their sustainable credentials either. Within a year, they were nominated for a range of awards, winning trophies at the Glee Awards including best landscaping product in 2018, 2019 and 2021 and the 2019 Sword of Excellence for planters at the 2019 GIMA Awards.
Following strong sales since the Covid pandemic, Primeur have continued to develop their eco-story. Not only are they nominated for more awards, but they are also working on a new sustainable product for next year.
Sarah continued: “Amongst the new products for 2023 is our Mower Edge Border, the unique L-shaped profile allows the user to run the mower wheel along the edge, over both border and grass, eliminating the need to use the strimmer to finish the edges. This fabulous new addition to the range will launch at the end of January and will be available to pre-order within weeks."
Finally, when asked about working with Stax, Sarah said: “Stax are an important link for us, giving us access to an informed and pro-active sales team who are instrumental in getting our products into retailers.”
