MTW research has looked into the floor coverings market and believes there will be a £250m between now and 2019.

The research showed their has been real growth through 2014 following a period of lower sales over recent years, children’s floor coverings alone are expected to rise by 6% in 2015.

The report also outlines growth in the 50+ age bracket, house building and the self build sector, these factors supporting the growth in floor coverings.

Carpets continue to dominate with wood and laminate coverings gaining share as a rise in disposable incomes stimulates growth of high value coverings.

Web sales are up 80% since 2009, consumers generally preferring the in store experience are being lured with free samples, free delivery and full support.

Despite this 40% of physical stores have had increased growth in the past 12 months, though 40% have experienced decline.
