Latest statistics have shown that just over one in five companies who would usually take on apprentices did not do so in 2020. Given the current situation, that's pretty understandable.

However, the good news is that faith in the scheme is not lost, with 19% of tradespeople claiming that apprentices are more important now than ever before.

If you're thinking about expanding your team during 2021, there's a whole host of benefits that an apprentice could bring. Take a look below and see for yourself.

Valuable additions

When taking on a new apprentice, you do need to consider that the successful candidate will be starting from the ground up, so will need some guidance to get started. But, if you’re happy to invest some time, you’ll find that the vast majority of apprentices are hungry to work hard and prove themselves.

It’s also worth noting that apprentices tend to become long-term employees. With the right person, you could have a motivated and dedicated employee that has decided to take this specific route and  are less likely to leave.

Financial benefits

If you’re in the position to recruit, hiring an apprentice is often cheaper and carries a lower risk than taking on someone who may be older and already much more experienced. The Government also offers a lot of support to businesses who get involved with the scheme, both financially and non financially.

Giving back to the industry

Hiring an apprentice can not only benefit your business, but at the end of the day, you’re giving a youngster the opportunity to develop into a talented tradesperson. You’re helping to increase the workforce with industry-relevant skills and qualifications at the same time.

How do I hire an apprentice?
