Published 23rd May 2013
Once again, July 4th has been declared a nationwide day for the public to shop at independent retailers and celebrate the diversity of the High Street.
Organised by the National Skills Academy for Retail, this is the third year the national campaign has run to give a voice to independent retailers. This year the campaign has joined with Independent Retailer Month, which runs for the whole of July with Independents’ Day kick starting an entire month of activity to celebrate the independent sector and reconnect local people with local traders.
Over the next three months retailers will be encouraged to download the campaign posters and other support materials from www.retailindieday.com.
In addition, this year a package of training and business support is being made available to independent retailers in England at low cost, depending on their location.
The Independents’ Day has the support of 10 separate trade associations.
Jane Rexworthy, Head of the National Skills Academy for Retail said
“Independent retailers make up 92% of all retail businesses in the UK and their contribution to a location’s identities and community is unrivalled.
Anyone interested in taking part can stay up to date with the campaign by visiting the news section of www.retailindieday.com and www.independentretailermonth.co.uk
