Celebrating national garden month

This April, it’s National Garden Month, and as one of the UK’s leading garden wholesaler

Published 1st March 2023

This April, it’s National Garden Month, and as one of the UK’s leading garden wholesalers, we thought we’d shine a light on the nation's love of all things green fingered…

As a nation, we love to spoil our outdoors spaces. In fact, we spent a whopping £18.6bn on our gardens in 2021, with the average total spend per adult with a garden sitting at £690, according to Statista. £241 was spent on renovations, closely followed by accessories (£180), tools (£140) and garden toys (£109).

So how many of us actually have gardens? Data collected in the 2021 census found that 87% of UK households had access to a garden.

In a study carried out by YouGov for the Horticultural Trades Association in 2021, it found that 35% of adults in the UK use their garden or other outdoor spaces to grow their own vegetables, fruit, or herbs.

The same study also revealed that 62% of respondents use their garden spaces to grow plants, flowers or trees, whilst 49% use them to feed or watch wildlife.

The amount spent on gardening products in the UK per year is expected to reach over £6.5 billion by 2025 – meaning garden centres, wholesalers and retailers are set to see sales grow and flourish, just like the nation’s gardens.
