A survey undertaken by City Plumbing has revealed that a whopping 12% of adults in the UK are currently considering re-training in trades such as plumbing, gardening and building.
Some of the most popular areas being considered were plumbing (11%), building (11%), gardening (8%), electrics (6%), joinery (6%) and painting/decorating (5%).
That’s a lot of people. Of course, not all of them will go on to pursue a new career, however, there is definitely a demand for more skilled workers.
At present, there are around 100,000 job vacancies advertised in trade roles - up by 345% on this time last year alone.
Builders and labourers are very high in demand currently with more than 8,000 vacancies, followed by electricians (5,641), painters and decorators (3,866), carpenters (3,491) and plumbers (3,251).
By region, Kent, Greater Manchester, South East London, Hampshire and Essex currently have the most roles available.
