Customers and Staff at Stax Trade Centres were challenged to step up to the oche and face one of the biggest names in darts.
Mark ‘The Spider’ Webster visited the Oldbury-based branch of Stax to play darts alongside the wholesaler’s customers as part of a promotion with sponsors Leyland Paints.
Welsh professional darts player, Webster, spent a day playing over 100 members of the public in a special nine dart challenge.
The unique format, Stax customers had nine darts to try and beat the score of the former world champion, who threw six, with the highest scores being recorded for a chance to win a Makita DAB site radio.
One tradesman who took part in the challenge said: “Mark was brilliant and really got involved in the event. It was an excellent day and competition organised by Stax and Leyland Paints.
Webster, who forms part of an all-star darting Team Leyland alongside world number one Michael Van Gerwen and Australian Simon ‘The Wizard’ Whitlock, proved his class by hitting 10 maximum 180s during the day, with no staff or customers managing to outscore the Welshman.
‘The Spider’ also presented a signed shirt and darts memorabilia to lucky winners as all opponents on the day were also entered in to a draw to win a host of darts goodies including a signed darts shirt, limited edition darts and dartboard.
“It was a fantastic day,” he said. “I really enjoyed playing against the Stax Trade Centre customers. As professionals, we all love to play in and win major televised tournaments but it’s also very enjoyable to play members of the general public in events like this one of Leyland Paints.
“t was great to meet some very big darts enthusiasts and hopefully they all enjoyed the day as much as I did.”
These sentiments were also echoed by Stax Birmingham Branch Manager David Scullly who comments, “This event created a real buzz about the branch, in addition to the darts competition, Stax and Leyland really got behind the promotion offering a series of fantastic one day only deals so plenty of our trade customers walked away happy even if they couldn't manage to beat Mark’s score.”
